What's the Bible say about seeking God?
The Bible also tells us that we should be patient when seeking God (Lamentations 3:25). The Bible tells us that if you draw near to God, He will draw near to you (James 4:8). If we look for God, then we will find Him (Matthew 7:7).
God must be sought continually (Psalm 105:4). Those who seek the Lord who obey and humble themselves will be hidden from God's anger (Zephaniah 2:3). Now is the time to search for God (Hosea 2:10), for in looking for God, he may come and rain righteousness upon us.
How do I seek God first?
We should be searching first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). What does it mean to seek God first though? How do we make chasing after God the priority in our lives?
First, we need to read the Bible to know what Jesus Christ said and did for all creation. Then we can do everything in the name of Jesus Christ and give thanks to God the father through Him (Colossians 3:17).
Searching for God requires that we seek with all of our heart and mind (Deuteronomy 4:29). We must believe and know in our heart that when we seek the Lord, we will find God.
We should look for God no matter our situation. When we are in trouble, many of us find it easy to cry out to God. It is more difficult to be searching for God when we are being showered with praise for things we did.
Chasing after the Lord is also difficult. When you lack strength, seek God (Job 5:8-9). God is continually seeking us, His creation. Jesus hinted that He is like a shepherd who would leave a flock of 99 sheep to save 1 (Matthew 18:12).
Putting God first means making all of your own desires after His. God doesn't want you to simply prioritize his will over yours, but to also put others before yourself. God knows that when we seek our own desires first, we neglect our neighbors and that goes against everything God wants for us.
God knows what is best for us, and He knows that our own will is not what is best for us. God is always looking out for our best interest, and He makes all things work together for our good.
How do you know God's will for your life?
This may sound a bit on the nose, but when you seek God, you will see what God's will is for your life. When God calls, you should seek to discern what God's will is. When you are seeking God, there are some things you should pay attention to.
I have found that things are easier when I seek God and I do not merely seek to gratify or satisfy my own desires.
Some things like opportunities fall into place when I am seeking God's will and not my own. I understand that God is a fair and just God. When I seek the Lord, God reveals His justice to me and it makes more sense to me than it does for someone who does not believe (Proverbs 28.5).
The closer I draw to the Lord, the more I seek God's will and not my own. I stop looking at God like some genie granting my wishes and seek to do things within his will. I seek to know and match my desire to His. In this seeking, I find that I reduce my own desires and I find joy and contentment in hearing God's call and submitting to Him as Lord.
Let us seek God with all of our heart, mind and soul. Let us see the world as our Lord Jesus Christ. May we find as much joy in serving God's creation as He delights in being able to help us. May the Lord God find us lacking nothing, seek us when we stray, and call us when we are in danger.
